India – The land of global Technocrats

Since the advent of 21st century, India has taken rapid strides towards making their mark and leaving a lasting legacy at the global level. Especially when it comes to technology, especially information technology, India has emerged as the global powerhouse. A majority of the credit for this goes to the development of reliable technical educational infrastructure, which trained talents who can compete at the global level. So, it doesn’t really come as a surprise that Indians would also dominate the technology domain globally. Today, many Indian technocrats have climbed the corporate ladder and secured the top spot in the tech world globally.  

Below, we have listed some phenomenal Indians, who have broken the traditional shackles and have risen as global leaders in the business world.

Sundar Pichai – CEO, Google

The biggest beneficiary of new age education of India has been the technology sector and the prime flag bearer of this phenomenon would be Sundar Pichai, the current CEO of Google. From humble beginnings in Madurai to leading a global tech search giant, Pichai has come a long way in the last 20 years. As far as his academic credentials are concerned, he earned his degree in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and went on to earn his MS from Standford in Material Sciences and Engineering followed by MBA from Wharton. His rise as CEO of Google has been hailed globally as a testament of talent the of Indian engineers globally.

Satya Nadella – CEO, Microsoft

Another Indian that has made the country proud in the Silicon Valley is Satya Nadella. This Indian American Business leader is leading Microsoft – the software giant. Born in Hyderabad, Nadella completed his schooling and graduation in India. He holds an electrical engineering degree from Manipal Institute of Technology and an M.S. from University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He also completed his business education from the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business. He took up the reins of Microsoft in 2014 and since then has been leading the company to new heights.

Shantanu Narayen – CEO, Adobe

Another Hyderabadi who has left his footprint on the global business world is Shantanu Narayen. Mr Narayen currently leads the American software company Adobe Systems after starting his career at Apple. He also pioneered the concept of digital photo sharing with Pictra Inc, a company which he co-founded. Just like other Indians on this list, Mr Narayen completed his schooling in Hyderabad and earned his graduation degree in electronics engineering from Osmania University. He also holds an MBA from University of California, Berkeley and an MS from Bowling Green State University.

Rajeev Suri - CEO, Nokia

Rajeev Suri is another familiar name in the global tech world. He is the current CEO of Nokia – the telecommunications major. Born in Delhi in 1967, Rajeev completed his graduation in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology. Under his leadership, the telecom major aims to re-enter the mobile phone business and has already taken first steps towards it by introducing new phones in the market.

Dinesh Paliwal - CEO, Harman International Industries

Everyone has heard the name of audio equipment major Harman Kardon or JBL, but rarely anyone knows that the company is led by an Indian technocrat. Yes, Dinesh Paliwal is the Chairman, President and CEO of Harman International Industries, which owns over 20 different audio and infotainment brands. Paliwal belongs to Agra and has completed his engineering degree from IIT Roorkee. He also holds MS in Applied Science and Engineering and MBA in Finance from Miami University.
